Why does PEA use a Grid-Scale Battery in distribution system?

The flexibility of BESS enables it to provide a wide range of services at both the system and customer levels. From reducing infrastructure costs to supporting VRE integration at the distribution level, and enhancing resilience and energy autonomy behind the meter—through voltage and frequency response, peak shaving, energy arbitrage, or other approaches—BESS is becoming a foundational element of modern grid architecture. Integrated planning approaches that align grid requirements with customer value will enable distributed energy storage to serve as both an operational asset and a strategic enabler of the energy transition.
