Way to Save Electricity

Lighting Devices

  • Turn off the lights when not in use.
  • Use the right bulbs in the right places.
  • For areas that require a lot of brightness, fluorescent lamps is suitable for indoor lighting and sodium vapor lamps or mercury vapor lamps is suitable for outdoor lighting.
  • Use a clear lamp cover if there are no glare problems and always keep it clean
  • Consider using a desk lamp for tasks that require a single spot. 
  • Unplug lighting devices when not in use for a long time.
  • Use a reflector lamp instead of the lamp with opaque plastic cover.
  • Use a fluorescent lamp or compact fluorescent lamp or LED lamp instead of incandescent lamps which instructions for use are as follows:
    - 18 watt and 36 watt thin shape fluorescent lamps have the same brightness as 20 watt and 40 watt fluorescent lamps and can be used interchangeably without changing ballast and starter.
    - There are two types of compact fluorescent lamp, built-in ballast type and pin-type. Built-in ballast type can be installed in an existing screw socket to replace incandescent lamp while pin-type requires a ballast and a socket that corresponds to their pin.
    - LED lamps use low electrical energy and provide light equal to fluorescent lamps and fluorescent lamps.

Electric Iron

  • Electric iron is an appliance that produce heat and consumes a lot of energy, so we should know how to use it economically and safely.
  • Check the power cord and the appliance for damage before use.
  • Select the proper ironing temperature for each types of fabric.
  • Do not over dampen the clothes.
  • Unplug the appliance 2-3 minutes before finish ironing.
  • Dampen the clothes before ironing.
  • Unplug when the appliance is not in use.
  • Iron large batches of clothes at a time.
  • While the appliance is heating up, starts ironing from delicate fabric then move to thicker clothes.
  • Unplug the appliance before finish ironing because the heat could last for a while.
  • Wash and dry clothes without twisting or wringing to prevent the wrinkles for easier ironing.

Electric Fan

  • Adjust to the proper wind speed.
  • Turn on when in use only.
  • Opt to natural wind if possible.

 

Hair dryer

  • Wipe your hair before using the hair dryer.
  • Comb your hair while blow drying.

Vacuum cleaner

  • Empty the dust bag every time after using the vacuum cleaner for better suction power and less energy consumption.
  • Refrigerator or freezer
  • Set the appropriate temperature.
  • Let hot foods cool before storing them in the refrigerator/ freezer.
  • Always close the refrigerator/ freezer door after using.
  • Ensure that the refrigerator/ freezer door stays closed.
  • Replace the door seal immediately if damaged.
  • Choose the energy-efficient refrigerator/ freezer.
  • Choose the refrigerator/ freezer size that suits your family.
  • Locate the refrigerator/ freezer away from heat sources. Place it at least 15 cm from the wall for sufficient ventilation and less energy consumption.
  • Keep the condenser coils clean.
  • Do not over pack your refrigerator/ freezer.
  • Single door refrigerator consumes less energy than double door refrigerator. 
  • Defrost the freezer compartment when there is a thick layer of ice.

Rice Cooker

  • Appropriate usage can reduce energy consumption, suggestions as follows: Cook the proper amount of rice that is enough for the whole family.
  • Unplug the rice cooker after it finishes cooking.
  • Do not make the inner pot dented because dents make rice cooked slower.
  • Always keep the heating plate clean. Do not let food debris stick on it because it makes rice cooked slower.
  • Choose the appropriate size of rice cooker that suits with family members.
  • Pull the plug from outlet when the rice is cooked.
  • Add the proper amount of water into the inner pot before cooking.
  • Close the lid tightly while cooking.

Water pump

  • Install automatic water level controller inside water storage tank, often adjust it correctly and maintain it in working condition.
  • Install properly sized water pipe that suits the pump size.
  • Always check for leakage and fix it immediately if founded.
  • Install water storage tank at a proper height.
  • If user has not install automatic water level controller, water overflow from storage tank shall be considered.For belt driven water pump, the belt must be checked for over-or under-tensioned conditions.

Washing machine

  • Wash with proper loads.
  • Use cold water to wash clothes. Hot water can be used in case of grease stain removal.
  • Follow the user instructions for wash load recommendation.
  • If there are only 1-2 pieces of clothes, it should be hand washed.
  • Try not using tumble dryer in a sunny day. Leave the clothes dry naturally.

Electric motor

  • Conduct preventive maintenance and lubricate regularly according to preventive maintenance plan.
  • Conduct belt inspection and adjustment regularly.Consider changing motor speed control system into electronic control system.

Electric oven/ Electric stove

  • Prepare the ingredients before cooking.
  • Choose metal flat-bottomed cookware which is compatible with electric oven/ electric stove for best heat transfer.
  • Add proper amount of water when boiling.
  • Do not open the oven door often while cooking.
  • Unplug the appliance immediately when finish cooking.
  • Lower the heat and close the lid in case of slow simmer.
  • Choose metal flat-bottomed cookware which is fit with heating surface. Consider cookware which compatible with electric oven/ electric stove if possible.
  • Keep the container tightly closed while cooking.

Water heater

  • Adjust to the temperature that suits body temperature.
  • Close the valve immediately when not in use
  • In case of leakage, fix it immediately.
  • Properly install the ground wire for water heater.
  • Switch off when not it use.
  • Always follow the user instructions.
  • Choose the right size water heater.
  • Water temperature should not be too hot.
  • Close the faucet every time when not in use.
  • Try using less hot water in summer.
  • Switch to sun-heated water if possible.

Air conditioner

  • Turn off the air conditioner when not in use.
  • Close windows, doors and curtains to prevent the heat from outside.
  • Temperature setting should not be lower than 26 degrees Celsius.
  • Choose the right sized air conditioner that suits your room size.
  • Choose energy-efficient air conditioner.
  • Install the air conditioner at a proper height for adequate cooling and leave enough clearance for ventilation.
  • Insulate the walls and roof with thermal insulator.
  • Maintain the appliance in good condition.
  • Regularly clean the filter and evaporator.
  • During cold season, if the weather is not too hot, air conditioner should not be used.
  • Close the door and the window to prevent cool air leakage.
  • Consider installing a sunshade or blinds to reduce the workload on the air conditioner.
  • Consider installing curtains in order to prevent the heat from outside.
  • Follow the user instructions.
